Under 13 Cricket

The Emirates Dubai 7s is globally recognised as one of the world’s leading tournaments on the World Sevens Series.

On Friday afternoon, it wasn’t the rugby that ‘kicked’ things off at the Emirates Dubai 7sYouth Sport Festival, it was the Under 13 Cricket tournament.

Six Under 13 Cricket teams made the journey along the E66 to the sunshine of The Sevens. Arcadia School, Dubai College, DESC, Dubai International Academy, Jumeirah College, and Repton.

With the Dubai summer still making its presence felt on the grass cricket ovals, the first games began at 2pm, in the very bright sunshine, of the Sevens Stadium Cricket Grounds.

England’s Georgia Elwiss joined the young cricketers for the afternoon. The Southern Vipers and World Cup winning England bowler delivered a series of masterclasses in the Sevens Cricket Grounds’ nets. Every team took the opportunity to benefit from Georgia’s knowledge, experience, and cricket know-how.

Eight high quality cricket matches were played over the course of the afternoon – with some extremely close and very exciting games. You can check out the results from all of the action of the Under 13 Cricket tournament at https://youthsportfestival.com/cricket-under-13/.

Arcadia got across the finish line with 4 wickets to spare against DESC on Oval 1 in Pool A, while on Oval 2, Dubai College took an early lead in Pool B with a win over Repton.

Arcadia were on Oval 1 once again, but this time it was Jumeirah College that were the opposition. When the game came to a close Arcadia had posted their second win of the afternoon.

On Oval 2, in Pool B, it was Dubai International Academy that were the next opposition for Dubai College. After an exciting game it was Dubai College that had the win, with six wickets to spare.

We’ll be back at The Sevens Cricket Grounds on October 27th for the Under 15 Cricket Tournament. The first round of games will begin at 2pm.

Under 16 Girls Rugby – Round 1

Under 16 Girls’ rugby made its debut at the 2023 Emirates Dubai 7s‘ Youth Sport Festival on Friday evening.

Teams from rugby clubs across the UAE arrived at The Sevens Stadium to take part in the inaugural Under 16 Girls competition which kicked off across four of the famous Emirates Dubai 7s tournament pitches at a precise 5:44 pm.

A shrill blast of a referee’s whistle signalled the start of twelve high-octane matches. Each one of them overflowing with exciting and electrifying rugby.

Three rounds of pool games were played through the course of the evening. When the whistles of four referees signalled the close of Round 1, Abu Dhabi French, Dubai Exiles, and the Dubai Hurricanes had all got off to winning starts. The Dubai Sharks played out a 20 – 20 thriller of a draw on Pitch 5.

The pick of Round 2 was the match on Pitch 3 between Dubai Hurricanes 2 and the Dubai Exiles. After 14 minutes of non-stop drama and excitement between the two Sevens Stadium based clubs it was the Exiles that pipped Hurricanes 2 at the final whistle, getting their noses over the finish line by 15 points to 14.

The excitement continued in Round 3, the third and final round of games of the evening. Abu Dhabi French cemented their place at the top of Pool B with a 22 – 5 win over the Exiles.
